PacifiCorp, an Oregon-based utility company that owns over a dozen wind farms, is suing to block the U.S. government from releasing data about bird fatalities at its wind projects.
According to an Associated Press report, PacifiCorp filed its suit in U.S. District Court in Utah and is seeking an injunction to keep the U.S. Department of the Interior from handing over the information to the AP. Under a U.S. Freedom of Information Act request, the news agency had asked the government to turn over the PacifiCorp data as part of a bigger probe into bird fatalities at wind projects.
In its lawsuit, PacifiCorp says it is concerned that releasing the information, which the company offered voluntarily to the government and deems confidential, would cause "irreparable damage" to PacifiCorp and only hinder wind power companies' future collaboration with federal agencies.
