Minneapolis-based Open Access Technology International Inc. (OATI), a provider of energy transaction and risk management, transmission scheduling, and smart-grid and settlement systems for the energy industry, has successfully deployed the OATI webSmartEnergy, a variable generation scheduling software tool that automates scheduling of the power produced by wind and solar farms into the electric grid and wholesale markets.
Considering the variable nature of wind and solar generation, the automation capability helps the plant operators avoid any scheduling penalties and maximize revenues from energy production and renewable energy certificates.
The tool automates the entire scheduling process, including communication and submission of bids and offers to energy and ancillary services markets; OASIS transmission reservation; NERC tagging; and ramp reservation, based on the latest forecast of the variable generator output.
The tool utilizes user-configurable rules to assess the energy market conditions, including energy and ancillary service prices, and identifies the most profitable scheduling options.
The update of scheduling process is done automatically, and the tool can be set to perform the tasks on a daily, hourly or inter-hourly basis.
