Gov. David A. Paterson, D-N.Y., has announced the awarding of $3 million to a variety of projects in New York. The funds will strengthen and support the growth of the state's clean energy economy by helping 18 companies commercialize clean energy technologies, the governor says.
The funding is provided by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to help businesses increase their access to markets, customers, investors and partners, and build capacity to serve a new or expanded customer base.
‘Public partnerships with private industry are absolutely critical to foster our economic growth, and these investments in cutting-edge companies will help these businesses grow and prosper in New York state,’ says Paterson.
The awards, which total up to $200,000 per company and require an equal match from the businesses, will help them create jobs, develop business plans, reach customers in the global marketplace, raise capital and build business infrastructure. Funds will be provided to companies following development of a formal contract.
AWS Truewind LLC, an Albany, N.Y.-based renewable energy consulting firm, will receive $200,000 to finance launching enhancements to its existing consulting services to allow the company to explore new lines of business.
Apex Wind Energy, a Patterson, N.Y.-based developer of large-scale wind projects, will also receive $200,000. The company will use the funds to explore the potential of expanding renewable energy development at closed landfills.
The award will allow the company to evaluate the suitability of the existing designs of landfill-based wind turbine foundations, identify closed landfills with an adequate renewable resource and develop a detailed business plan for developing the market for wind energy facilities on landfills.
