The U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has appointed Dr. Daniel Laird director of the National Wind Technology Center (NWTC).
According to NREL, the NWTC encompasses 305 acres at the base of the foothills south of Boulder, Colo. Researchers and industry partners work there to help advance the development of innovative land-based and offshore wind energy technologies.
Laird, who earned his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Madison-Wisconsin, is relocating from the Energy Department's Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, N.M., where he served as manager of the Offshore Wind and Water Power Technologies program.
‘I am very excited to join the outstanding research team at the National Wind Technology Center,’ says Laird. ‘The NWTC is a truly world-class research facility, and the NREL mission is critically important to the nation.’
