National Ski Areas Association Reports Widespread Green Energy Use

0

The National Ski Areas Association has released its seventh annual report on the sustainable slopes environmental charter for ski areas. The charter was adopted in June 2000 and revised in 2006 as a collection of environmental best practices for ski area owners and operators.

According to the report, 16 U.S. ski resorts currently offer customers the option to purchase green power to offset energy required for a day on the mountain. These purchases are being facilitated through Cool Tags, Green Tags, Native Energy's Ski Cool Program and Ski with the Wind from Renewable Choice.

In addition, the report indicates at least seven ski areas are encouraging customers to purchase green power for their own residences. Among 60 resorts purchasing green power, about 28 have committed to purchasing 100% green power, most of which is produced from wind.
