Southwire, a Georgia-based wire and cable producer, has launched a new multi-strand aluminum cable particularly suited for down-tower wind turbine applications.
According to the company, the cable is more flexible than similar aluminum cables, making it easier to install. Also contributing to the ease of installation is a chlorinated polyethylene outer layer that allows clamps to grip.
Per manufacturers’ requirements, the product has also been tested with common oils that are used in wind turbines, says Southwire.
Moreover, because of its flexibility, the cable can be connected to the electrical access boxes inside a tower without the need to use an extra splice and connector – in turn, eliminating excess cutting.
