Mass Megawatts Wind Power Inc. says its new wind augmentation system is nearly complete.
According to the company, the system utilizes a wind-focusing technique to increase wind velocity directed at the wind turbine by an average of 70%. This accelerated wind speed, in turn, results in a three-fold increase in the electrical power generated by the turbine, Mass Megawatts says.
In addition, because the system increases wind speed, turbine structures do not need to be 80 feet or higher to realize adequate wind velocity, the company explains, adding that this reduces material and installation costs while expediting zoning approval in many locations.
