Marcilynn Burke Named Deputy Director Of Bureau Of Land Management

Marcilynn Burke, an attorney and professor at the University of Houston Law Center, has been named deputy director for policy at the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

‘Marcilynn Burke brings a well-rounded knowledge of natural-resource and environmental-stewardship issues to the table,’ says Robert Abbey, director of the BLM. ‘Her expertise in renewable energy and other land management issues will make her a valuable member of the BLM's leadership team.’

Burke most recently taught environmental law courses on land use and its management, natural resources and property at the University of Houston Law Center in Texas.


She has also served as visiting assistant professor of law at the Rutgers School of Law and the Seattle University School of Law. She previously was with the law firm of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in Washington, D.C, where she focused on environmental law, antitrust, and civil and criminal litigation.

Burke has degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Yale Law School.
