The Electric Reliability Council of Texas Inc. (ERCOT), the grid operator for most of Texas, has named Charles B. Manning Jr. vice president and chief compliance officer.

Manning has 30 years' experience in the electric power industry, most recently as chief compliance officer and senior vice president for participant and corporate affairs at MEAG Power in Atlanta.

‘We are pleased to have found someone with Chuck's experience and history with the ERCOT market to fill this new role,’ says Bob Kahn, CEO of ERCOT. ‘I am confident he will provide valuable leadership for ERCOT as we transition into the new compliance roles required under the Federal Energy Policy Act.’

Prior to joining MEAG Power as chief operating officer, Manning served as general manager for Austin Energy from 1998-2002. During his tenure as general manager, he served on the ERCOT board of directors, representing the municipally owned utilities segment.

The new position was created to provide a centralized focus for compliance issues at ERCOT and to interact with the various regulatory agencies, including the Texas Regional Entity, North American Electric Reliability Corp. and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, according to Kahn.
