In response to its March request for proposals, Manitoba Hydro has received 17 proposals to sell new wind-generated electricity. The proposed wind farms' capacities range from 25.5 MW to 300 MW, with locations spread throughout southern Manitoba, the company says.
Several of the potential developers submitted multiple proposals involving different capacities, different sites and other features, resulting in a total of 84 separate proposals. The company is currently reviewing all of the proposals.
‘Assessing this number of proposals thoroughly and fairly is obviously a major undertaking,’ says Bob Brennan, president and CEO of Manitoba Hydro. ‘We expect to complete this work within a couple of months and decide on the next steps towards the continued development of this clean, self-renewing energy source in Manitoba.’
