LM Glasfiber, a Denmark-headquartered wind turbine blade manufacturer, has been awarded the Product Prize 2007 by the Confederation of Danish Industries (DI) for its 61.5 meter (m) blade.
In awarding this year's prize to LM Glasfiber, DI explained that ‘on the basis of four years' research and development efforts, LM Glasfiber has developed a whole new generation of blades that truly pushes the envelope in terms of materials and engineering. Thus, LM Glasfiber has demonstrated extraordinary R&D skills, and combined with its leading position in the field of renewable energy, LM helps Denmark retain global leadership in this field.’
One wind turbine equipped with the 61.5 m blades can generate power output equivalent to the annual power consumption of almost 5,000 households. According to LM Glasfiber, just over 600 wind turbines with these blades could replace the 5,500 wind turbines currently in operation in Denmark.
