LEEDCo Completes Lake Erie Soil Study Analysis

0

The Lake Erie Energy Development Corp. (LEEDCo) says it has completed its geotechnical work for Icebreaker, its proposed offshore wind farm located off the coast of Cleveland.

According to LEEDCo, the soil analysis obtained from the Lake Erie floor is essential for building the first freshwater wind farm in the U.S. and will ensure the turbines' foundation design is uniquely tailored to the Lake Erie environment.

In early May, a 90-foot-tall jack-up barge was used to perform pressure tests and extract soil samples from Lake Erie, where the nonprofit plans to erect up to nine 3 MW wind turbines in 2016.
