The board of directors of ISO New England Inc., the operator of the region's bulk power system and wholesale electricity markets, has approved the 2007 Regional System Plan (RSP07).
This year's assessment shows marked progress in a number of areas, including demand- and supply-side resource development as well as significant upgrades to the transmission system serving the six New England states.
RSP07 cites areas that need improvement, such as overall resource needs, fuel diversity, environmental compliance and transmission improvements.
The report also mentions a study dealing with a possible new interconnection that could provide access to wind energy and additional Canadian imports, as well as short- and long-term improvements for the lower southeastern Massachusetts area.
