Holyoke, Mass.-based ISO New England Inc., the operator of the region's bulk power system and wholesale electricity markets, has appointed Anne C. George vice president of external affairs and communications, effective Nov. 3. Most recently a commissioner with the Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control, George will be responsible for the areas of external affairs and corporate communications.

‘Anne has considerable expertise in regulatory affairs and a keen understanding of the critical issues facing the electricity industry,’ says Gordon van Welie, ISO New England president and CEO. ‘This combination will prove essential as we interact with our government stakeholders and the general public.’

George was selected after a nine-month search and will be a part of the executive management team reporting to van Welie.

In addition to working directly with regulatory commissions and other government entities, George will be responsible for communicating with news media and the general public. She will also oversee ISO's interaction with the newly formed New England States Committee on Electricity as well as other organizations, including the New England Conference of Public Utilities Commissioners and the New England Governors' Conference.

She holds a juris doctorate from Georgetown University.
