Iberdrola, Vattenfall Launch Development Of Giant Offshore Wind Farm Complex

Iberdrola and Vattenfall say they have launched the preliminary development phase of an offshore wind power complex in East Anglia, U.K., that has the potential to deliver up to 7.2 GW of wind energy capacity.

Both companies have awarded a 23 million euro contract to Scotland-based Woods Group for the fabrication, installation and operation of two weather monitoring stations on the coast of Norfolk and Suffolk. These infrastructures will be built by Scotland-based Steel Engineering, and they are expected to be installed in British waters next summer.

Both stations will measure the wind speed and direction, as well as temperature and air pressure, for an area bigger than Norfolk.

With this award, a total of 62 million euros has been invested in the East Anglia offshore wind farm. The project has the potential to deliver 7.2 GW of installed capacity, which would make it one of the world's largest renewable energy projects.
