Hydro Quebec Evaluates Wind Power Tenders

Hydro Quebec, a transporter and distributor of electricity, has received 66 wind energy offers from 25 firms in response to its recent call for tenders. The company's invitation, launched in fall 2005, called for the purchase of 2,000 MW of wind power.

Hydro Quebec will now evaluate the tenders received according to the following criteria: A minimum of 60% of the total costs of each wind farm must be met in Quebec, and a minimum of 30% of the cost of the wind turbines must be met in the regional county municipality of Matane and the administrative area of Gaspesie-Iles-de-la-Madeleine.

In addition, projects that will contribute to the development of local communities will be more favorably evaluated. The tenders selected will be announced next spring, Hydro Quebec says, adding that contracts are subject to additional governmental approvals and wind farm construction permits.
