Texas-based Hover Energy LLC, a wind energy technology company, has announced Dr. Carsten Westergaard as its new chief operating officer (COO).
According to Hover, Westergaard brings more than 25 years of experience in wind energy to the company. He began his career as an aerodynamics blade designer with LM Wind Power, and he later served as the director of global technology for Vestas Wind Systems in Denmark and the U.S.
Most recently, Westergaard served as professor of practice at the National Wind Institute at Texas Tech University, where he performed research and taught graduate courses in wind energy. He is the founder of Westergaard Solutions Inc., a company that assists nascent renewable energy companies, national laboratories and suppliers.
“I am happy to be leading Hover’s engineering efforts and developing the business even further. Our technology incorporates aerodynamic advances and a vertical-axis unit to deliver on-site wind power for the built environment,” says Westergaard. “We believe Hover Array Systems will be a disruptive distributed energy resource (DER) for commercial rooftops. Over the past year, we have significantly improved the efficiency of our units by refining their aerodynamics and design in preparation for our unique, rooftop array systems. Currently, we are performing advanced wind tunnel testing at Texas Tech to validate our design system and configure the units to produce unparalleled energy conversion efficiencies for DER applications.”
Hover notes that Westergaard received both an M.S. in mechanical engineering with a specialty in physics and a Ph.D. in physics with a focus on laser technology and fluid dynamics from the Technical University of Denmark.
Albert McLelland, CEO of Hover, adds, “Carsten has been a valuable advisor for Hover and has contributed to both our business development and technical progress. We are excited to have him take on a senior leadership role, which will accelerate our innovation.”
