Hempel Group, a provider of protective coatings, has released a new direct-to-metal coating for wind tower production.
According to the company, the new anti-corrosive coating, called Hemperea DTM 55973, features a drying time of just 60 minutes. It can be applied directly to metal and is suitable for C3 corrosive environments. The splash-zone coating combines a primer and top coat in a single coat.
‘Many onshore wind towers need a C3-classified, anti-corrosive coating to protect them from wear, tear and corrosion,’ explains Anders Voldsgaard Clausen, group wind power segment manager at Hempel. "However, a standard coating system can take between four and 12 hours to dry, which causes huge bottlenecks in the production line. By reducing that curing time to one hour, Hemparea makes it possible for wind tower manufacturers to vastly increase line speeds and, therefore, reduce production costs."
