The Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) has announced release of the 2006 Green-e Energy Verification Report, which highlights renewable electricity certification program Green-e's certified renewable energy sales in 2006.
The report shows an almost 90% increase in total sales volume over the previous year, equivalent to nearly 10 million MWh of renewable energy generation. Nearly 114,000 MWh were purchased or generated by companies participating in Green-e Marketplace.
‘Purchasers of renewable energy are going above and beyond to drive the development of renewable capacity nationwide,’ says Jan Hamrin, president of CRS. ‘With this increased interest and growth in renewable energy – as well as climate change – the need for independent verification becomes ever more important to ensure that voluntary purchases are leading to a real improvement in our environment and energy supply.’
