China-based wind turbine manufacturer Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co. Ltd. has launched its GW93/1500 permanent magnet direct-drive wind turbine, which the company says is designed to operate in ultra-low wind speeds.
The GW93/1500 has a 93-meter rotor diameter with a rated capacity of 1.5 MW. It is designed for IEC Class S wind resource areas, where the annual average wind speed is lower than 6.5 meters per second.
The wind turbine uses a permanent magnet generator and a full-power converter with grid-friendly properties, and meets national grid connection requirements and zero-voltage ride-through standards, Goldwind notes.
