Francisco Conde – the regional councilor for the economy, employment and industry of Galicia, Spain – recently visitedGamesa‘s turbine blade factory in As Somozas, where an exec confirmed the manufacturer’s plans to add a third production line at the complex.

Gamesa makes blades for the G114-2.0 MW and G114-2.5 MW turbines at this facility, which currently employs 183 people. At present, the factory is manufacturing blades for two wind farm developments: one in Cyprus and one in Turkey.

During Conde’s visit, Ricardo Chocarro – Gamesa’s CEO for Europe, the Middle East and Africa – confirmed the plans for the new line, which will enable the gradual hire of roughly 100 people over the course of the year.

For his part, Conde underscored that the company is a benchmark for wealth creation in the region, where Gamesa employs close to 300 people and works with over 260 suppliers, which benefited from orders worth EUR 40 million in 2015, according to the manufacturer.

In addition to the blade factory in As Somozas, the company has a gearbox repair facility in Sigueiro and a sales office in Santiago de Compostela.
