Gamesa has named Hipolito Suarez managing director for Mexico and Latin America. The appointment makes Suarez the top executive for the region after having been Gamesa's No. 2 executive there during the last year.
A law graduate, Suarez previously worked for Gamesa for 14 years as director of legal counsel; he later joined law firm Uria & Menendez as a partner in its corporate law department and, finally, served as general secretary of a family-owned company. He rejoined Gamesa in 2013 as deputy managing director of Mexico and Latin America.
Gamesa says the region is one of its main markets due to its high growth potential. The company has built a significant presence in Latin America, where it has already installed more than 1.5 GW of its turbines. In Mexico, Gamesa also has installed over 1 GW and has a pipeline of close to 900 MW.
