The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has appointed Elliot Mainzer the administrator for the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). Mainzer has served as acting administrator since July 2013.
As one of four Power Marketing Administrations within the DOE, BPA markets hydropower from the Federal Columbia River Power System. BPA also owns and operates most of the surrounding power grid, transmitting renewable and other energy resources to the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
"The Bonneville Power Administration is vitally important to serving the energy needs of the Pacific Northwest and contributes greatly to the Energy Department's mission," comments Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz. "Elliot Mainzer has the proven experience to lead BPA during this important time, and I look forward to working with him to serve BPA's customers, constituents and employees in the months and years to come.
