Devils Lake, N.D.-based Lake Region State College (LRSC) and Enel Green Power North America Inc. (EGP-NA) have announced new scholarships for students interested in pursuing a career as a wind energy technician.
LRSC provides a program offering students education and hands-on experience to become wind energy technicians. Students who enroll in LRSC’s wind program – and who are residents of North Dakota – are eligible to apply for one of two EGP-NA $2,500 scholarships; preference is given to students from the Tioga and Williams County area. EGP-NA operates the Lindahl wind project, a 150 MW facility in Williams County.
This year’s recipients of the scholarship are Derek Schwinler of Minot, N.D., and Benjamin Dalen of Mayville, N.D. Both are students in the LRSC Wind Energy Technology program.
According to the college, students in the wind technician program have the option of completing a one-year certificate program or continuing to the second year to earn an Associate in Applied Science degree. Students train with LRSC’s 1.6 MW wind turbine.
