Chardon, Ohio-based EGC Enterprises Inc., a licensed manufacturer of RotaBolt fasteners, has introduced visual load indication (VLI) – its latest tension control bolting technology.
The company says VLI assures accurate bolt tension (+/-5%) at installation, as well as throughout the service life of important wind turbine bolted connections.
At installation, tighten VLI modified fasteners, and the installed visual gauge will rotate into position to indicate that design clamp load has been achieved. For ongoing maintenance, service crews can perform a rapid visual check of the gauge face to determine if the joint remains properly tensioned.
This instant tension verification is proven to reduce costly bolt-related maintenance times by a factor of 20, the company says. VLI systems are also easily monitored by camera, thus eliminating the need for costly rigging to perform bolted joint maintenance checks.
