In response to the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) nationwide challenge issued at the end of 2006, 53 Fortune 500 companies now collectively purchase more than 6 billion kWh of green power annually. These purchases surpassed the goals set by EPA's Green Power Partnership, the agency says. Intel Corp. leads the nation among EPA Green Power Partners as the top buyer. PepsiCo is second, followed by Wells Fargo & Co.
Cisco Systems and Kohl's Department Stores recently made purchase increases to place them in the No. 7 and No. 8 positions, respectively, on the list.
The EPA also has updated its other Top Partner lists, including its National Top 25 list. New to the National Top 25 list are two Texas cities – the city of Dallas at No. 9 and the city of Houston at No. 12.
