Construction Worker Killed Near Wind Farm Construction Site

A subcontractor was killed on Wednesday morning, May 27, in an accident that occurred on a county road near the construction of Invenergy's Prairie Breeze II wind farm, located in Nebraska's Antelope County.

According to Wanzek Construction, Thomas L. Bales, 40, of Denver, was fatally injured when the crane he was driving rolled over into a ditch southeast of Elgin on 527th Ave. Emergency responders were called immediately and arrived on the scene shortly thereafter. Bales was working as a subcontractor for Wanzek on the 73.5 MW wind project, which is under currently construction.

‘The safety of our employees, subcontractors and everyone around our projects is our top priority,’ says Arnold Jelinek, vice president at Wanzek Construction in a statement. ‘We are currently working with all relevant officials to determine the cause of the accident. We have also deployed grief support resources to assist crew members at this time.’


Invenergy declined to comment.Â

‘Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased,’ says Jelinek. ‘Out of respect for the family, and because there is an ongoing investigation, we currently are unable to release additional information on the incident.’
