Delta, British Columbia-based Con-Tech Systems has introduced its deep-foundation system. Developed specifically as an alternative to conventional mass concrete foundations, Con-Tech Systems' deep-foundation system uses post-tensioned ground anchors to increase foundation stiffness and reduce foundation deformations under wind load.
According to the company, the system has a small footprint, is ideal for areas that are difficult to access and is suitable for nearly all ground conditions, including soil and rock. The integrity of the foundation can also be tested before commissioning.
Because the system has a smaller footprint, it is environmentally less intrusive and can be constructed quickly and economically, the company says. As wind turbine technology develops and turbines become larger, the system can be scaled to match the size of the wind turbine.
Germanischer Lloyd certification is pending, as is the patent. The system is available for evaluation through Con-Tech Systems' engineering partner, URS Corp.
