Turbine components for ALLETE's 107 MW Thunder Spirit wind farm, located in Hettinger, N.D., were unloaded at the Duluth Seaway Port Authority on Aug. 28.
According to the Minnesota-based port operator, the HHL Tyne carried 31 wind turbine blades from Castellon, Spain, and Nordex nacelle sets across the Atlantic Ocean and through the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway to Duluth. The components were then transported by truck to the western North Dakota site.
The shipment is the fifth of seven total wind turbine components expected to arrive at the port. Construction of the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
When completed, the wind farm will be sold to Montana-Dakota Utilities (MDU), a division of MDU Resources Group. MDU will own and operate the project for use by its utility customers.
