Ulstein Design & Solutions (part of Ulstein Group) and SeaOwls are teaming up to jointly develop what they say is the next generation of self-propelled, heavy-lift jack-up vessels.
The companies say the new design is targeted toward the offshore wind and offshore oil and gas industries.
Rather than develop a scaled-up version of a conventional, heavy-lift jack-up vessel, the companies plan to design a completely new model.
The new concept, dubbed SOUL (SeaOwls ULstein), will be scalable and suitable for needs such as various crane sizes, loads and deck layouts, the companies explain.
“Together we have come up with a new layout, including a number of alternative solutions that will significantly change and improve the installation of offshore wind turbines,” said Edwin van Leeuwen, managing director at Ulstein Design & Solutions.
