Community wind project developer OwnEnergy Inc. says it has appointed Ron Rebenitsch to the company's board of directors. He is an energy executive with a wealth of expertise in development, operations and public policy.

Rebenitsch most recently served as an executive at Basin Electric, one of the largest electric generation and transmission cooperatives in the U.S. In that role, he was responsible for managing, siting, developing and constructing 287 MW of wind energy in North and South Dakota, in addition to coordinating the purchase of hundreds of megawatts from other wind projects.

Rebenitsch was the project manager for the U.S. Department of Energy's Wind-to-Hydrogen research and development project. He was also a member of the Utility Wind Integration Group's board of directors and the former chairman of the Cooperative Research Network's Renewable Energy Member Advisory Group.

Since retiring from his 35-year career with Basin Electric, Rebenitsch has been working as an executive director with the South Dakota Wind Energy Association, in addition to providing independent consulting.
