E.ON’s 200 MW Colbeck’s Corner wind farm, located east of Amarillo, Texas, has been put into operation.
According to E.ON, the project’s 112 GE 1.79-100 turbines can generate enough energy to supply the equivalent of 64,000 households with power. Under a long-term contract, the wind farm is supplying Digital Realty, a global provider of data centers, with 400,000 MWh of power annually.
Named in honor of Doug Colbeck, an E.ON employee and wind farm developer who passed away from a serious illness, the project is the 20th wind farm E.ON has put into operation in the U.S. In addition, throughout North America, the company has built wind farms totaling 3 GW.
