Canada's Minister of Health Tony Clement has announced more than C$53 million in funding, over ten years, for the Prince Wind Energy Project, Canada's largest wind power facility.
The Prince project, situated on 20,000 acres of land northwest of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, qualified for the C$0.01 per kWh incentive under the ecoENERGY for Renewable Power initiative. The wind farm's 126 turbines are capable of generating up to 189 MW of wind power.
The Prince Wind Energy Project is owned by Brookfield Power, a subsidiary of Brookfield Asset Management Inc. Brookfield Power's portfolio comprises more than 3,800 MW of capacity and includes hydroelectric power generating stations, one wind farm and two thermal plants.
