The California Independent System Operator Corp. (California ISO) says it has appointed Steve Berberich its new president and CEO.

The appointment follows the retirement of former President and CEO Yakout Mansour, who announced in May that he would retire June 1.

Berberich joined the California ISO in 2005 and has served in a series of positions. He led the successful deployment of the California ISO's new market, which is now facilitating renewable energy integration, according to the California ISO.

Since 2010, Berberich has been serving as the California ISO's chief operating officer, with responsibility for the reliable operation of the state's transmission system and wholesale electricity markets.

Berberich brings more than 20 years of technology, financial and utility experience to the California ISO. He previously held positions with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and various management positions with Dallas-based TXU, including vice president of information technology.
