Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) and 3TIER have announced the launch of an interactive wind asset valuation (WVAL) tool, which enables investors to evaluate more than 3,400 wind projects around the world.
‘[WVAL] permits robust scenario analysis based on best-of-breed wind and market data, without the need for privileged access to the project's historic production data,’ says Michael Grundmeyer, vice president of business development for 3TIER.
WVAL brings together datasets required for the valuation of wind assets, including BNEF's wind project and wind turbine databases and 3TIER's wind resource data.
WVAL uses the latitude and longitude of the project to tap an hourly wind-speed time series data set derived from a weather model provided by 3TIER. It then calculates the expected annual power generation for the location based on the wind data and BNEF's proprietary database of wind turbines and their performance characteristics.
