Houston-based Bigge Crane & Rigging has received Manitowoc's first 16000 Crawler Crane outfitted with the heavy boom created specifically for wind turbine erection. The 16000 also incorporates a new wind jib that increases lift capacity at radius by 44%, according to the company.
Manitowoc first released the 16000 in 2005, and it has frequently been deployed by wind contractors. Manitowoc has now designed a new heavy-boom configuration and new wind jib for the 16000, increasing the lift capacity to more effectively handle the larger turbines, according to the company.
The first Manitowoc 16000 crawler crane is being delivered to Bigge's regional headquarters in Houston. The second crane is expected to be delivered this summer.
