Two subsidiaries of Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE), an $84 billion international portfolio of energy businesses, are deploying Uptake Technologies’ solutions across their wind power fleets, which account for approximately 5 GW of capacity.

Chicago-based Uptake Technologies provides a predictive-analytics, Software as a Service platform that delivers solutions to increase productivity, reliability and safety. Specifically, MidAmerican Energy Co. and BHE Renewables, both based in Des Moines, have inked a long-term contract with Uptake Wind.

The announcement follows nearly a year of joint research, design and development on a predictive portfolio management solution for wind power owners, says Uptake. The company expects to offer the solution to other wind owners this fall. It is also developing additional analytics applications across other renewables industries.

“After exploring a number of data analytic solutions to optimize productivity, particularly through actionable insight into operations and maintenance of our wind fleet, we identified Uptake as an ideal partner,” comments Bill Fehrman, president and CEO of both MidAmerican Energy Co. and BHE Renewables.

“We wanted software that was more than a dashboard. We want to put data-driven recommendations into the hands of our operational team members so they can drive business value directly,” he adds.
