Baram America Introduces VAWT Generators

0

Alto, Ga.-based Baram America LLC, acting liaison for IR Wind Generator Co Ltd., has introduced a generator that can produce 10 MW of energy or more. Unlike horizontal wind generators, IR Wind vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT) generators are virtually noise-free, safe for animals, space-efficient, more tolerant of changes in wind direction and speed, and use fewer parts, according to the company.

‘The IR Wind Generators have been designed to be low-maintenance and 'wind gust' tolerant,’ says Jim Stroup, CEO of Baram America. ‘The unique vertical-axis design captures wind energy that is lost to all but the most sophisticated HAWT [horizontal axis wind turbine] designs.’

These vertical-axis wind generators are capable of harnessing more wind energy than the traditional horizontal axis generators. The vertical axis, which is made of lightweight materials, allows for a lower start-up speed than horizontal, making it efficient in states with lower-wind areas, according to the company.
