Avent Lidar Technology, a new privately held joint venture between NRG Systems Inc. and Leosphere, has launched its Wind Iris nacelle-mounted LIDAR platform.
The system provides 10 simultaneous measurements out to 400 meters upwind, in addition to providing a ‘perfect cosine response with 360-degree horizontal tracking of turbine performance,’ according to Avent Lidar. The system's optical head and processing unit are compact and lightweight, making it easy and safe to install, move and maintain, both onshore and offshore.
‘For wind farm operators, wind turbine manufacturers and research labs, seeing the wind exactly as the turbine sees it is essential for meaningful performance analysis,’ says Avent Lidar's Thomas Velociter. ‘With this high-performance turbine-mounted LIDAR technology, owners and operators can verify power curves, analyze wind turbine and wind farm performance, and fine-tune wind turbine parameters.’
