Availon Releases Redesigned Wind Turbine Pitch Controller

0

Availon Inc., a provider of parts and engineering services to the North American wind power industry, says it has introduced a redesigned pitch controller.

Availon partnered with Lenord + Bauer, a manufacturer of automation systems for industrial motion sequences, for the redesign. Availon says the new design was created based on customer feedback and the results of a root-cause analysis.

The new design aims to minimize turbine failures by featuring reliable communications from the pitch controller to the axis cabinet components. Circuit boards are specially coated to prevent loosening due to vibration and to guard against corrosion, and improved RS communications now provides a higher tolerance for voltage spikes, the company explains.

Upgrades to the controller's components allow it to handle a wider temperature range, from -40 degrees C to 70 degrees C, Availon adds.
