Alberta Court Dismisses MATL Appeal

The Alberta Court of Appeal has dismissed the landowner appeal to the Montana Alberta Tie Ltd. (MATL) line.

The MATL international power line ties together the Alberta and Montana power grids, lending more stability to both electricity systems and providing a means to get clean, renewable wind energy to market. All capacity on the line has been purchased by Montana-based wind energy producers.

In Decision 167, the court states that the Alberta Energy Utility Board's undertook a ‘comprehensive balancing’ of social, economic and environmental issues and concluded that ‘there is no reason (for the court) to disturb the conclusion reached by the board in respect to public interest.’

‘MATL is pleased with the Court of Appeal decision; however, our work isn't done yet,’ says Bob Williams of MATL. ‘We remain committed to listening to our landowner neighbors and their concerns. We will continue to do what we can to find solutions to all legitimate landowner issues.’
