Hair-care manufacturer Zotos International Inc. celebrated the ground breaking of its $7 million, 3.3 MW wind power project at its manufacturing plant in Geneva, N.Y. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Zotos says it utilized funding from the Section 1603 funding provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The funds will cover 30% of the project's costs. Zotos expects to see a return on investment in less than five years.
According to the company, the two-turbine project is the first wind project in Ontario County and the largest private industrial wind plant in New York. The project comprises of two 1,650 kW wind turbines that will generate approximately 7,500 MWh annually.
The company is investing in wind power as part of a sustainability initiative aimed at powering its 670,000 square-foot plant with 100% renewable energy by the end of 2011.
