Yahoo! Inc. has doubled its commitment to clean energy through Santa Clara Green Power, a 100% renewable energy program sponsored by Silicon Valley Power (SVP). The Santa Clara, Calif.-based municipal electric utility will purchase renewable energy credits on behalf of Yahoo! from newly constructed wind farms and solar photovoltaic projects located in California, the companies say.
The purchase brings Yahoo!'s total energy commitment to 1,608 MWh. Santa Clara Green Power is offered to SVP customers at an additional cost of $0.015 per kWh, according to SVP.
