Xcel Energy Expands Wind Agreement With NextEra

0

Xcel Energy will expand its wind power purchase from NextEra Energy, formerly FPL Energy, at the Northeastern Colorado Wind Energy Center near Peetz, Colo. The facility is expected to grow by 22.5 MW to nearly 175 MW.

NextEra Energy was originally contracted to provide Xcel Energy with 151 MW of new wind energy from its wind farm at Peetz Table in January. This new agreement is being filed for approval with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission.

The expanded portion of the wind farm will be built with 15 1.5 MW GE wind turbines. Construction is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

The company also plans to add up to 700 MW of new intermittent renewable energy generation to its portfolio by the end of 2015 from the bids received in response to a recent request for proposals.
