German wind farm developer wpd has secured financing from KfW IPEX-Bank and Helaba to build two projects totaling 14.35 MW in Canada. wpd says these wind farms will be its first North American projects.
The wind farms will be constructed in Springwood and Whittington in southern Ontario. Work has already started, and once completed, the two projects will together consist of seven Senvion MM92 wind turbines. Commissioning is scheduled for this fall.
The finance consortium and wpd have also agreed to cooperate on further projects in Ontario. Through 2016, wpd is planning to construct another four developments in Canada with a total capacity of more than 90 MW, including one project with a potential of up to 60 MW.
