Minneapolis-based Women of Wind Energy (WoWE), a nonprofit networking organization for women in the wind energy industry, is now accepting applications for the Rudd Mayer Memorial Sponsorship Program, which awards full sponsorships for women to attend the American Wind Energy Association's WINDPOWER 2009 Conference and Exhibition.
This program is open to any woman who is graduating or has recently graduated and who is seeking a career in any area of the U.S. wind energy industry.
The Rudd Mayer Memorial Sponsorship Program covers the cost of airfare, ground transportation to and from the airport, conference registration and lodging. Usually, up to eight sponsorships are awarded annually.
Deadline for applications is Feb. 27, 2009. Decisions will be made by the WoWE steering committee and will be announced March 31, 2009.
In related news, WoWE is now accepting nominations for two awards: the Woman of the Year Award and the Rising Star Award.
The Woman of the Year award is designed to recognize one woman whose lifetime of work has contributed to the expansion and improvement of the wind energy industry.
The Rising Star award is designed to recognize one woman who is newer to the wind energy industry, and who stands out for her significant contribution to any area of wind energy in the U.S.
The deadline for nominations is Feb. 28, 2009. Decisions are made by the WoWE steering committee, and the winners are announced at the WoWe luncheon at WINDPOWER 2009 in May 2009.
Applications and instructions for both the sponsorship program and nominations can be found at womenofwindenergy.org.
