Fort Collins, Colo.-based Woodward Governor Co., a designer, manufacturer and service provider of energy control and optimization solutions, has signed an agreement with REpower Systems AG to provide power converters for 48 6 MW offshore wind turbines. Woodward will manufacture the CONCYCLE power converters at its facility in Kempen, Germany.
The wind turbines are intended for the Nordsee Ost offshore wind farm, which is expected to be built in the North Sea between 2011 and 2013. The REpower turbines, based on the technology of the 5 MW class, have a total capacity of approximately 295 MW.
Woodward has supplied CONCYCLE converters for REpower wind turbines for more than eight years. Recently, Woodward commissioned power converters for the German offshore wind farm, Alpha Ventus, which uses six REpower 5 MW wind turbines.
