Wisconsin Power and Light Co. (WPL), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corp., has executed a letter of intent to purchase the proposed 400 MW Bent Tree Wind Farm in southern Minnesota from Wind Capital Group LLC, a St. Louis-based developer of wind energy assets.

‘The Bent Tree Wind Farm represents a continuation of our work to bring wind energy home to rural communities,’ says Wind Capital Group President Tom Carnahan. ‘The residents and officials of Freeborn County truly understand the benefits of developing clean, renewable energy, and we were pleased with the tremendous amount of support we received from them in developing the Bent Tree site. We are proud that an industry leader like Alliant Energy will now oversee the next phase of construction on the project.’

WPL currently anticipates the purchase of the site to be complete by October. WPL plans for the first 200 MW to be in commercial operation by the end of 2010. A decision regarding the development of the wind farm's additional 200 MW has not been made.
