Wind Speeds In North America Deviated Substantially From Norm In Q2

0

AWS Truepower LLC, a provider of renewable energy consulting and information services, has released its wind resource data for the second quarter. The data covers the wind resource in three regions: North America, Europe and India.

In North America, a persistent ridge of high pressure over the central and eastern U.S. brought record temperatures and substantial deviations from normal wind speeds. The northern Great Plains and Rocky Mountains saw wind speeds that were higher than average for the second consecutive quarter, while the Appalachians experienced below-average winds, the report shows.

AWS Truepower's report for Europe finds that western Europe experienced above-average wind speeds during the second quarter, while eastern Europe, Great Britain and Iceland saw below-average wind speeds.

Meanwhile, in India, a delayed start to the summer monsoon resulted in large wind-speed anomalies. Some key wind-producing states, such as Rajasthan, experienced winds well above normal, while others, such as Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, saw below-normal winds, the data shows.
