Bacardi Corp. has unveiled the largest wind turbine installation in Puerto Rico, which will power Bacardi's distillery near San Juan.
The installation consists of two 250 kW wind turbines owned and operated by Cataño, Puerto Rico-based Aspenall Energies, which will sell the electricity produced by wind to Bacardi under a power purchased agreement.
The project is expected to generate approximately 1,000 MWh of electricity per year, accounting for 3% to 7% of the power used by the company, or roughly the consumption of the facility's tourism-related activities at its Casa Bacardi Visitor Center.
